Last year, Bishop Donald Trautman established the Bishop's Commendation for Service Award to recognize the faithful of the Diocese of Erie who are motivated by faith and consistently give of their time and energy. "These people have made a significant contribution in some specific way in the church," Bishop Trautman said. "They are the unsung heroes and often their good works go unnoticed." The award medallions and certificates will be presented at three locations:
- Eastern Vicariate - Sunday, August 14 at 6:30 p.m., St. Mary Parish in St. Marys
- Northern Vicariate - Tuesday, August 23 at 7 p.m., St. George Parish in Erie
- Western Vicariate Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m., Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex
Nominations for the award were accepted by local pastors. The local vicars then reviewed all nominations to determine which ones were forwarded to the bishop. Bishop Trautman then had the final selection. All recipients of the service award were notified by mail with a letter from the bishop.
We'll be attending all three ceremonies which include the Liturgy of the Word and award presentations; there is no Mass. The recipients will be featured in the next three issues of FaithLife news bulletin by vicariate beginning with the East in the Aug. 28 edition.
